Damask Snowflake

This beautiful creation was inspired by a clever lady named Becca Feeken and my son. Becca made a fan using part of the Damask Motif die set from Spellbinder which sparked the thought process and my son came up with the off set idea.
I cut six shapes for each side using the small filigree die from the set. These were cut from a white pearl thick paper that has a gold sheen to it. Thick paper or thin card is best as you will need it to curve easily, thicker card will not be so easy to work with.

 

Trim the bottom edge from each shape as shown in the picture. This is to allow the shapes to fit together when the circular shape is formed.
Glue each shape together at the point marked with a cross, as shown in the picture on the left,so that they look like the curved shapes shown in the picture on the right. Do this to all twelve shapes making sure you glue only at the small circle as shown.

Once all shapes have dried you can then stick six of them to each other by glueing on the back of the small circle with the cross on shown in this picture. It's a small area to glue but it will hold the whole star together. The centre has been covered with a small die cut solid snowflake shape which hides where the ends meet.
Once you have made one star shape you can make the second and decorate both with pearls, buttons or brads and add your hanging thread before sticking them together to form your dimensional shape.

The snowflake has been stuck together with the points of each star off set to give it a fuller look. The star has been stuck together at the points. You could just make one star and use it as a card embellishment as long as you don't need to post it!
