Technique Tuesday - Paper snowflake

Today we are making paper snowflakes.  I came across these on a really good website

I have made one with a J & C twist, using copy paper.

 

1. Download the large snowflake template or small snowflake template. Print enough pages so you'll have 6 squares (1 or 2 sheets, depending on which template you chose). Cut along the inner lines with an X-acto knife and then cut out the squares.

2. For each snowflake, bend the tips of the inner-most flaps toward each other and curl with your fingers to give them shape. (No tape needed for this pair of flaps.)

3. Moving outward from the center, bend the next pair of flaps around in the opposite direction until they meet. Overlap ends and secure with double-stick tape.

4. Repeat with the next pair of flaps, bending them in the opposite direction. Do the same for each concentric pair of flaps, alternating directions each time and taping ends together. Continue on to the remaining 5 squares, making the snowflake parts the same way you did the first one.

5. Tape all 6 points together to form a snowflake.

To make the J & C Creations one I firstly printed out the template then on the reverse I sprayed cosmic shimmer blue an silver colours on the paper and left it to dry.

Then on the template side coloured it in with  gathered twigs distress ink.

I then turned it back over and stamped the heartfelt Creations Rye Grass stamp in versamark and used WOW ebony embossing powder and heat set.

Then using the template cut out the squares and lines and fold as instructed. 

After gluing all six together I got my snowflake. FAB.....

Here's a really easy card to get you in the mood for spring
The stamp is from the  Heartfelt Creations range Dutch Iris Blossom 3 Collection and is called Dutch Iris frame stamp.

Step 1
Take some white card and stamp your image onto it with a black versamark pad then cover the stamped image with silver embossing powder , melt the powder and leave to cool for a moment when your image has cooled you can colour it in
I used Spectrum Noirs on the project
Blues TB1, TB5, TB7
Greens CG2, DG2
Step 2
When you have coloured your image, cut away all the white card and mount onto some black card then onto some white card that has been dusted with around the edges with your Tim Holts Broken China blue.
I have stamped the sentiment again with black versamark and embossed that with gold and silver embossing powder and then cut out and layered on top. I also edged this with Broken China blue
Step 3

Take a piece of black card slightly bigger than the white card you just mounted your image on and cut into 4 equal rectangles then take some of your Gold and Blue mica powders ( you only need a little bit) and add a little water to them so they become paint, do this on a tile or plate not straight into the pot!!
Step 4
Scrunch up your clingfilm into a loose ball and dab this into the colours and then dab lightly all over your black card, I went with gold first and then blue, just keep going till you are happy with the look then leave to dry for a few minutes
Step 5 Mount your now painted rectangles onto some white card which has been dusted again with Tim Holts Broken China and border the edges with silver peel off borders. Mount onto black card again and then onto your card blank.

Thrifty Thursday - Butterfly Mannequin

This week we have asked to do something different with Spellbinders and I can think of nothing more satisfying than altering a mannequin.

I purchased this from next in the sale last year for £3.  I firstly painted the stand with black gesso and the torso in white gesso.  I then used PVA glue and attached Tim Holtz Tissue paper to the torso.  I then painted it in pink acrylic paint and whilst wet flicked mica powder in pink purple and brown on the paint and rubbed it in.

I then die cut 2 x Heartfelt Creation Decorative Lace Border from Tim Holtz backing papers and cut this in half, the bottom bit I put around the edge of the torso and the upper bit I put around the waist and neck area of the mannequin.

I then used the pink Tim Holtz backing papers and die cut scrolls from spellbinder frosty forms, die d lites fantastic fourish 1, and jewel flowers and flourishes, adding dots of glue over the flourishes and adding pink glitter.

I then die cut a butterfly from the spellbinders wonderful wings and added versamark with WOW Pink Glitz embossing powder.  I punched out some small flowers and added them to the torso, ribbon around the waist and used a diamante brad both front and back.

A gorgeous addition to a girls bedroom

Technique Tuesday - Spellbinder Spectacular

This week we are looking at Spellbinders and different projects and mediums you can use them with.

I have made the flower with cork.

I started off and used the garden delights m-bossabilities folder and glued this onto some red/pink backing paper using cosmic shimmer glue to stick a strip each side of black and white ribbon.

I then used white card and die cut the spellbinder Parisian Motifs.  I then got a coloured backing paper and die cut 6 further smaller motifs and used these as a flower by cutting them into quarters and gluing onto a black glossy spellbinder circle.

I then used the black glossy cardstock and cut out 2 x flourishes and 4 x leaves from the spellbinder jewel flowers and flourishes.

The flower was made from cork and die cut from the spellbinder spiral blossom 3 set.  The button was made with a spellbinder circle and 4 holes punches in with ribbon through.

The half ornate circle is from the heartfelt creations  layered elegant swirl die cut from the same backing paper as the flower base.

The sentiment is from the Penny Black 'gratitude' set and layered onto black gloss card.

Thrifty Thursday - Preserve Me!

Today I have purchased a large jar for £1, a chutney jar (cleaned out) and a wooden egg cup for 20 pence and turned them into storage jars for all your crafty bits.  I have used the Moroccan Motifs and accents to decorate the jars.

Firstly I cut strips of cardstock which would go all the way around the jar 5.5cm wide.  I then used
versamark and WOW clear  embossing powder and used the heartfelt creations tattered background stamp with circles on and heat set this.  I then used direct to paper and smudged distress ink in seedless preserves all over the embossing and then with kitchen paper buffed the excess off the stamped area.

I then cut a light pink strip of card for the middle of the card.  I then die cut in different pinks/purple the border, corners and small circle.  I then glued using cosmic shimmer glue a small width pink ribbon to one of the pieces of card along the middle.

With the egg cup I glues a piece of pink ribbon around the middle  and  further ruffle pink ribbon around the bottom.  Inside the egg cup I put 2 x baby wipes inked up in seedless preserves distress ink and left to dry.  I then places some pins in this as a holder 

Hope this has given you some ideas and you have a good sort out in your craft room this week and fill up these jars with all your crafty bits such as ribbons, buttons, scissors etc......

Technique Tuesday - A bit of Cling!

This week we are looking at motifs and accents and I have chosen Moroccan style.

Firstly the background.  On my craft sheet I placed some black soot distress ink and put water with this.  I then got a paintbrush and painted this onto a piece of 6 x 6 ins cardstock quite damp.  I then got a piece of clingfilm and scrunched this onto to the top of the wet ink.  The secret to this is to leave it to dry, then pull the clingfilm off and you should be left with some really good veins and crack effects on the paper.  I then went around the edge of the card and distressed it with the edge of a pair of scissors and inked with tumbled glass and faded jeans distress ink.

Next I used the Heartfelt Creations Tattered Collage stamp and inked up in memento London Fog ONLY the writing on it and stamped a background.  I then took the Penny Black wood mounted flying stars and stamped this out on the left and right in black memento ink.

I then inked around the edges of a smaller piece of white cardstock the faded jeans and tumbled glass ad stamped in black memento the Penny Black first day of Christmas wood backed stamp. 

I then got the Whimsy embossing folder and touched this up in places with antique linen distress ink then ran my stamped image through it.  I then distressed the edges of the card with my scissors as before.

I then die cut the border from the Moroccan motifs out of the spare embossed piece which was left and inked up with the same colours as before.

I then die cut the label from the motifs and coloured in with the same colours and added a sentiment.

I glued all this together with Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic glue and added a piece of lace behind the border.

Scrapbook Sunday

Today I'm showing you another passion of mine - scrapbooking.  This is such a lovely way to keep memories of loved ones and certain stories alive on what you did, where you went, what the picture means to you.

You can incorporate all you stamps. embossing, die cutting, knitting, crocheting (need I go on) into your pages. I won't go into all the science of it at present, just enjoy making the memories.  Choose colours that compliment each other

This photo was taken of my daughter at a wedding we were at earlier this year. It was a lovely day and she looked stunning(well I would say that wouldn't I!).

First take a 12 x 12 ins piece of card (mine is white).  The I cut to 10 x 10 ins piece of backing paper with a gray scroll on it. I then added the banner in black from the spellbinder labels and tags and added different black and white backing papers as the flags.

I then chose another grey/black and pink backing paper and made this a rectangle, adding a spellbinder circle to the back of it.

I then cut a flower from another piece of backing paper and stuck this down the right hand side of the page.

I then took some white, pink and design backing papers.  On the white card I stamped and embossed in WOW ebony embossing powder the Heartfelt Creations Tattered Background stamps and on the pink the Heartfelt Creations Shabby Chic Lace stamp again stamping in versamark and WOW ebony embossing powder.

I then die cut 2 small spellbinder circles and added card candy in silver on the top.  I then die cut 2 x butterflies from the Grand Shapabilities - wonderful wings in different backing papers.  The butterfly at the bottom of the page was cut in plain black card then stamped in versamark with Heartfelt Creations Tattered Collage Stamp  background stamp and embossed with WOW white embossing powder.

The small flowers butterfly and dragonfly are punches.I finished off with black card candy in the bottom left corner.

Positive and Negative

Good Morning all, today I want to show you how to get more from your Spellbinders Nestabilities , I will be using the Classic Heart Nestabilities set, Splendid M-Bossibilities Folder, Heartfelt Designs Daisy Patch Bouquet Stamp Set, WOW Gold Embossing Powder, Emboss Stamp Pad, Memento Ink, Lavender Glass Glitter, Grand Calibur and Copic Pens.

Arrange the 2 Heart Dies you wish to use on an A5 Sheet of white Paper, using masking tape to keep in place run through your die cutting machine, I have used Grand Calibur to cut mine.

Set aside the A5 sheet somewhere safe for use on your second card.

Decide which part of the Bouquet stamp you would like to feature and with Memento Ink stamp onto the diecut hearts (Slightly off centre).  Colour using your chosen colouring medium. 

Die Cut 2 larger hearts from Silver Mirri Card, Matt coloured hearts onto Silver hearts add Ribbon, Pearls, Sentiment and Bows as shown  and make up card as shown below.

Now using the A5 negative card and Splendid M-Bossibilities Folders run through your Die Cutting Machine.

Cut a piece of Super Smooth Stamping card to the same size as the embossed card, tuck underneath the embossed card and lightly outline the cut out Hearts.

With Emboss ink Pad stamp image slightly off centre on each outlined heart and emboss with WOW Gold EP.  Colour with desired medium leaving the leaves uncoloured.

The coloured image which has been matted onto Gold and Red Card sits under the raised die cut top panel.  Add Ribbon, Pearls, Sentiment and Bows as shown
