Technique Tuesday - Sitting doing Nothing

Hi Everyone

Sue here

Spellbinder dies can be used for cutting, stenciling, and embossing and I have done all 3 today, concentrating on the stencilling in the scallop circles.

I fell in love with the Bildmalarna stamp 'Sitting Mimosa'  I have used both watercolour pencils and paper piecing - stamping onto different coloured paper and cutting it out.

The background is a piece of 12 x 12 paper from Prima called 'blue skies' and I have cut some of the flowers from it and decoupaged them then inked all around the page with rusty hinge distress ink..

When I had coloured Mimosa in I then cut around her shoes and left hand then placed a spellbinder scallop circle die up to the cut line, then placed the die through my big shot.  This cuts the die around the image and makes her look like she is sitting on the bottom of the scallop. (See Friday's post on how to do this)I then put the die through my big shot again with an embossing mat, which made the raised edge around the scallop.  I then used a post it note cut in a small circle for the moon and used distress ink in tumbled glass and faded jeans and inked the background over the circle. I kept the scallop circle on the cut out die to make a white edge.(stenciling).  Just make sure you wipe your dies before putting them back in your pack.  I then took the post it note off the inked circle.

The bird and cage is from Tim Holtz alterations mini bird cage and I used my base tray to cut them out.  I then embossed  a Penny Black stamp over the top - Paisley Border, and embossed in white.  I then sprayed this with cosmic shimmer mists in blue causing a resist.(This technique is when you stamp in versamark, and usually heat emboss in clear or white embossing powder, then use inks to either spray or sponge over.  The embossing repells the water based ink - resist technique.  Rub over with a piece of kitchen cloth to get the excess off the paper/card and embossing outline.)
