Thrifty Thursday-Small Oval Picture Frame

Hi Everyone

Sue here

Today is the turn of a small oval picture frame I purchased from a charity shop for 50 pence.

I first painted the very dark brown frame with 2 coats of white gesso (gesso is an undercoat/primer which is very useful for adding other mediums over the top.  It helps to adhere them and comes in different colours.  I have black, white and a taupe colour depending on what I want to put over the top).

I then used the Indigo Blu flitter glue on the Heartfelt Creations Poinsettia Spray small stamp and stamped this all around the edges of the frame.  I then adhered guilding flakes to the glue.

I then cut an oval from the spellbinder oval dies in white cardstock, the same size as the internal frame and stamped the poinsettia around the edges and  the Penny Black Little Angel hedgehog.  I then coloured these in, with distress markers.

On another piece of white cardstock, I stamped out the small poinsettia 2 times and the large poinsettia 2 times and again coloured these in then used glossy accents on some of the flowers for dimension .

I then decoupaged the larger one with Pinflair silicone glue and let it dry then placed this on the bottom of the frame.  The smaller one I cut up and placed under the rim of the frame but on top of the glass, giving it dimension.  I used glossy accents for gluing.

I then stamped in versamark the just for you stamp from the winter wonders stamps and heat set with WOW ebony embossing powder.
I then cut this out with a spellbinder  classic circle die and attached to the front of the poinsettia with glossy accents.  (This drys clear).

This would make a wonderful gift or an ornament for your home over Christmas or adapt the stamps and give as a gift anytime of year.  Make sure you give the frame dimension by stamping both behind and in front of the glass and don't be afraid to stick things to the glass.

What frames do you have around your home to alter?  I will be giving you further tips of how to alter frames in different ways over the coming weeks.  Stay tuned!

Happy crafting

Sue
