Hi Everyone
Sue here.
On Tuesday I made Faux Leather and today I'm going to do something with that. I started by purchasing a diary for 20pence from the local charity shop with a few buttons, ribbon and press studs. In all I spent 85 pence!
The first thing I did was cut away the insert diary from the cover.
I then cut 4 pieces of white card 2 of 14.5cm x 13.5cms and 2 of 21 cms x 13.5cms and used a hougie board to score lines at half inches along the 14.5cm and 21 cms widths. I then fan fold the pieces of card (as above).
I then took an edging punch and on one folded edge punch my pattern. I then attached one folded card to another one by pIacing them at 45 degree angle and sliding each fold into another one, apply the glue at the bottom and top flap only. Use a strong adhesive like Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic glue. Repeat on all four sides. Make sure that the patterned edge is at the top.
Take a piece of backing paper and glue this to the back of the book.
I then inked the pattern edges with pumice stone distress ink. Take the front of the diary and stick the faux leather to it with the fantastic Book Binding glue by pinflair. This glue is fantastic for sticking anything ot anything especially altering items. Leave to dry. Add embellishments.
I chose 2 x Tim Holtz hardware findings made from funky foam and distressed with vintage stain and picket fence distress stains.
Tim Holtz Gadget Gears I coloured in vintage photo and black soot distress stains, ran it through an embossing cogg folder, then added dots of glossy accents to give a pitted look.
Stick the embellishments to the inside(in the folds of the card). Then attach the back piece which I have chosen as a mask dabbed with distress inks in green and blue and pressed down on white card. Glue the finished piece to the inside of the diary.
Hope you give this a try.
Happy Crafting
Sue
